Life of an Architect: The Graphics

On June 13, 2011, in Blog, Life in General, by Bob Borson

There is something that makes this site different from most other architectural blog sites. It is something that most can’t quite put their finger on … but there is something there – you can smell it.

Some might say it’s the in-depth critical analysis of today’s leading architectural practitioners -

They would be wrong.

Some might say it’s the knowledgeable yet friendly tone to the writing -

Errrrrrrrrr.   Those people would also be wrong.

It’s none of those things, maybe its all of those things. My favorite, what I believe makes this site uniquely mine are my drawings – custom graphics – as terrible as they may be. They are my own and can’t be copied (why would anybody copy them in the first place, I don’t know)

So none of these drawings should impress anyone for their technical ability – I’m not impressed. Really, these drawings are nothing more than my attempt to communicate some point or message. I do hope that they add something to the Life of an Architect “experience”, I typically have a fun time creating them. While it’s fun to look back at some of the “custom graphics” I’ve created … I’m more interested in what I wrote.

Who knew? If you have a favorite let me know, I would like to hear from you.

The Master Shower graphic will always be my favorite- I will forever imagine the gent as you, drinking a martini while watching that lady in the shower… even though it kind of looks like she has pants on. ;-)

  • Judith Repp

I, too, wondered about the pants in the shower but I do love your drawings!  Reminds me to sketch more.  Keep them coming!

I love the modern toilet room.

of course she has pants on – this is a PG rated blog.

I will endeavor to come up with a sketch that will replace the shower one as your favorite. Sounds like a worthy challenge to myself.

    Cheers,
    Bob

Thanks Judith, I appreciate you taking the time to chime in.

The modern toilet sketch is a perfect example of me drawing something for my own amusement. Most of what I was trying to communicate could have been conveyed without an occupant or the “reading material”.

The coffee one is kind of funny, but mostly because I think it’s you! But my favorite all-time illustration of yours is the photo of you doing your version of martial arts superhero!

I agree, they do add a bunch to your blog.  I like the drawing with the flowers behind the back.  Of course, it is the writing which really makes the site shine.  Brilliant.

    Brian,

That might be my favorite. For some reason, I really like how the flowers turned out and it was my first attempt at ever drawing something like that.Thank you for the very kind words – I greatly appreciate them.

I probably could have guessed the kung-fu picture would be your favorite – as well as the tripping sketch. Yes, I imagined it was me when I drew it, except it isn’t coffee (I don’t really drink coffee) I drew in chocolate shake!

Cheers, and thank you for taking time to comment.
